Recognizing Outstanding Student Achievement
Each year Chicago-Kent students receive numerous honors and awards recognizing scholastic achievement, advocacy skills, and contribution to student life. The awards include:
Order of the Coif
Students who graduate in the top ten percent of their class are eligible for election to membership in the Order of the Coif.
Graduation with Honors
Graduation with honors is determined on the basis of the final class rank. On recommendation of the faculty, degrees may be awarded cum laude, magna cum laude, and summa cum laude. Under current practice, students who rank in the top 1 percent of their class are awarded their degrees summa cum laude; those who rank in the remainder of the top 10 percent of their class are awarded their degrees magna cum laude; and those who rank in the remainder of the top 25 percent of their class are awarded their degrees cum laude. Students who graduate in August and December are ranked with the succeeding May graduating class.
Dean's Honor List
Each semester, students who earn a semester average GPA of 3.25 or higher on a 4.0 scale, and satisfy a minimum credit requirement, are listed on the Dean's Honor List.
Moot Court Competition Awards
The Moot Court Honor Society administers the annual Ilana Diamond Rovner Appellate Advocacy Competition for second- and third-year students. The winner of the competition receives the Ilana Diamond Rovner Award for Outstanding Appellate Advocate. The best oralist in the competition receives the Fay Clayton Award, while the author of the best brief receives the Ralph L. Brill Award. The Rovner, Clayton, and Brill Award winners also receive scholarship grants applicable to tuition and have their names inscribed on the permanent plaque displayed in the Moot Court Honor Society's office.
The Bar and Gavel Society
Each year the Student Bar Association inducts graduating seniors who have distinguished themselves by outstanding service to the law school, the community, and the law profession, into the Bar and Gavel Society.
CALI Excellence for the Future Award
The Center for Computer-Assisted Legal Instruction (CALI) presents awards to the students who earn the highest grade in each class each semester.
Chicago-Kent Academic Achievement Award
This award is presented to the students in each class with the highest cumulative grade point average at the end of each academic year.
