Summer 2022 Schedule of Classes (revised 5/16/22)

This version of the schedule includes classroom assignments and exam information.

Note: Federal Courts has been canceled.

Note about the Summer Term. In accordance with university policy, summer classes will not be offered in hybrid format. Students who enroll in on-site summer classes will be expected to attend in person. 

Notice to First-Year Students. Current first-year students are permitted to take summer 2022 courses if they wish to do so. You may want to review the “Where Do We Go From Here?” document prior to summer registration (although it will mainly be relevant to registration for fall 2022, when that takes place).

Add/Drop Period. The summer add/drop period began on Friday, April 29. You may add open courses or drop courses using the online system. The add/drop period will run through Tuesday, May 31, at 9 p.m.

Update on U-Pass for Summer Term. ​We have learned that the CTA will allow full-time students registered for the summer 2022 term to opt out of the U-Pass (previously, we announced that it would be mandatory). If you are a full-time student or are taking at least one summer class and would like to use your U-Pass for the summer term, you do not need to do anything. The cost is $72 for the term. If you do not want the U-Pass this summer, you may opt out by completing this form no later than this Wednesday, May 25. If you are a full-time student taking a summer class and you have not received a U-Pass card in a prior term, please contact Jenna Abhijeet at jabhijeet@kentlaw.iit.edu. The Summer U-Pass will be valid from Monday, May ​23 (the first day of classes) through Wednesday, July ​20 (the end of the summer upper-level exam period).​ Please note: Due to the rules of the U-Pass program, as set by the CTA, we cannot provide U-Passes to part-time day or evening students.​ ​To learn more about the U-Pass program, please visit​ www.transitchicago.com/upass​.​

Application for Graduation. J.D. students who plan on graduating at the end of the summer term must submit an online Application for Graduation form no later than Tuesday, May 31, at 9 p.m. To complete the form, log into Web for Students and click on “Application for Graduation” under the “Online Forms” heading. Please complete every field in the form, and click Submit when done. You will receive a confirmation email once a graduation audit has been performed.

Please note that any changes you make to your schedule after the audit may affect your graduation requirements. You should check with the Registrar's Office prior to making any changes. Also note that, although the Registrar's Office does conduct graduation audits on all applications, it is your responsibility to make certain all requirements for graduation are met. Pass/Fail Elections. Pass/fail elections for the summer term must be made online no later than Tuesday, May 31, at 9 p.m. Please review section 2.4 “Pass/Fail Election” in the Student Handbook if you have any questions regarding pass/fail elections. Not all courses are available to be taken pass/fail. In order to make your election, you should:

  1. Log into Web for Students.
  2. Select the “Take Class Pass/Fail” option under the “Online Forms” heading
  3. Select the course you would like to take on a pass/fail basis
  4. Submit your selection

The Registrar's Office will review your request and inform you if there is any problem with your request.

Consortium Programs. Chicago-Kent has a consortium arrangement with certain other area law schools under which students can take selected courses at the other schools. Under the consortium arrangement, students pay tuition to their home school, and grades transfer (not just the credits) and are counted in your GPA. See below for summer 2022 offerings from each school. Please contact me as soon as possible if you are interested in taking a class through the consortium. Requests for available spaces will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note: Consortium courses may count toward a Chicago-Kent certificate program only with permission of Dean Sowle and the director of the relevant certificate program. 

Course Fee. A course fee of $350, in addition to regular tuition, will be charged to full-time students for each regular classroom course taken during the summer term, including any courses taken through our exchange program with DePaul, Loyola, and UIC, and including classes taken through other ABA-accredited schools. The fee does not apply to part-time students; it also does not apply (for any student) to clinical courses, externships, or Independent Research credits pursued at Chicago-Kent; and does not apply to courses taken through Chicago-Kent exchange programs with universities abroad. If you qualify for financial aid loans, those can be used to cover the cost of the fee; scholarships, however, cannot be used to cover the cost of the fee. Notice to part-time students: you may see the course fee on your account if you take a regular classroom course; a credit equal to the fee will be applied to offset the charge at the end of the summer add/drop period.

Intensive Trial Advocacy. We offer two sections of Intensive Trial Advocacy 1 each year—one in August, the week before fall classes start, the other in January, the week before spring classes start. Registration for the August section will take place as part of fall 2022 registration (not as part of summer registration).ᐧ
