IIT Chicago-Kent students elected to NBLSA Midwest regional board

IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law students Grace Akinlemibola '15, Kendra L. Lee '15 and Sharon Uti '16 were elected to the National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA) Midwest regional board of directors during the organization's 2014 regional conference in Minneapolis. The region includes law schools in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, Wisconsin and the Dakotas.

Grace Akinlemibola was elected Midwest regional chair, effective April 1. Prior to her election, Akinlemibola served as Midwest regional convention coordinator. She currently is academic support chair of IIT Chicago-Kent's NBLSA chapter. Akinlemibola graduated from Indiana University with a degree in accounting.

Kendra L. Lee, who was elected secretary, earned a bachelor's degree in Spanish and business administration and an MBA from Florida A&M University. Incoming programming chair Sharon Uti graduated from the University of Richmond with a degree in leadership studies.

Established in 1968 at New York University Law School, the National Black Law Students Association was formed to articulate and promote the needs and goals of black law students and effectuate change in the legal community. The organization currently has nearly 6,000 members from law schools in 48 U.S. states, the Bahamas, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Nigeria and South Africa.

Founded in 1888, IIT Chicago-Kent is the law school of the Illinois Institute of Technology, a private, Ph.D.-granting institution with programs in engineering, psychology, architecture, business, design and law. IIT Chicago-Kent established a chapter of NBLSA in 1974.
