The recently passed tax bill significantly increases the standard deduction beginning in 2018. As a result, fewer people will itemize their tax deductions and fewer still will be in a position to claim the charitable income tax deduction as they have previously.
If you plan to itemize for this year, you may want to consider making a gift this calendar year to realize your full tax benefit. As with all of your charitable decision-making, please consult your tax and financial advisors regarding your specific circumstances.
