Candidates selected as Honors Scholars receive annual law school scholarships of full tuition. These awards have a total value of more than $150,000 over three years. The award also covers the mandatory student activity fee, fitness center fee, Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP) fee, and UPass fee each term. Learn more on our Honors Scholars program page.
Selection
Illinois Tech’s Chicago-Kent College of Law awards honors scholarships based on academic performance, leadership qualities, and co-curricular activities. Applicants should have a Law School Admission Test (LSAT) score of at least 160 (or combined Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) score of approximately 315) and strong undergraduate grades. Candidates selected as finalists for the Honors Scholars program typically have cumulative undergraduate GPAs of at least 3.50.
Applicants who do not meet these requirements will be considered for other law school scholarship awards. Find more information on other Chicago-Kent scholarship opportunities.
Application Procedure and Deadline
The application materials listed below must be received in the Office of Admissions by February 23, 2024. There is no application fee.
- Chicago-Kent application for admission
As part of the application form, you can apply for the Honors Scholars program and upload the required Honors Scholars essay and resume. - Honors Scholars program application (form requires a Google login to open)
If you are applying for the Honors Scholars program after you have submitted the Chicago-Kent application for admission, you should complete the online Honors Scholars program application and upload the required Honors Scholars essay and resume. You do not need to complete the online form if you applied for the Honors Scholars program as part of the Chicago-Kent application for admission. - LSAT or GRE score(s)
You must submit the results of all exams taken within the past five years. - Complete Credential Assembly Service (CAS) report
Your CAS report will be sent to Chicago-Kent by LSAC. - Letter of recommendation
Your letter of recommendation may be submitted to LSAC for inclusion with your CAS report or sent directly to Chicago-Kent. If submitting your letters through LSAC, be sure to designate in your LSAC account which letter(s) should be sent to Chicago-Kent. - Honors Scholars essay and resume
To complete your application for the Honors Scholars program, you must submit an Honors Scholars essay and resume. Your essay should respond to the following questions:
What qualities do you possess as a prospective law student that ultimately will result in your becoming a leader of the profession? How have your accomplishments or challenges so far demonstrated that leadership potential?
Finalist Interviews
Finalists for the Honors Scholars program will be selected in late February. Selected candidates will be invited for an interview day on Friday, April 4, 2025. Finalists will interview with the dean and law school faculty, and meet with current Honors Scholars. Chicago-Kent will cover travel and hotel expenses for finalists from outside the Chicago area. The interview day will be held in conjunction with the 2025 Admitted Students Weekend on Friday, April 4, and Saturday, April 5.
We will notify scholarship candidates of our decision within approximately two weeks of the Honors Scholars interview day.
