Financial Aid Process for Visiting Another School

This type of program allows a Kent student to visit another university that is not affiliated with Chicago-Kent.  The student is charged tuition at the university that he/she is visiting and once the classes are complete the credits are transferred over to Chicago Kent.  The student is eligible to receive federal student loans (if enrolled in at least 6 credits) when visiting another Title IV-approved institution. Students may apply for a Private Educational Loan if they are not eligible to receive federal financial aid. A counseling session is strongly encouraged prior to processing financial aid.  Be sure to explain that the processing of the paperwork can take 4-6 weeks to complete.

1. Complete the Application to Visit Another Law School, which may be obtained by the Registrar's Office. 
2. Submit the application for approval and signature by Dean Sowle.
3. If you wish to apply for financial aid while visiting away, you must complete and submit to the Financial Aid Office the Financial Aid Request for Visiting Another Law School.
4. Our office will review your eligibility criteria: You must have the corresponding FAFSA on file, be enrolled at least half-time, be a degree-seeking student and demonstrate reasonable academic progress toward graduation or completion. Also, you must not be in default on federal student loans and be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
5. You must be enrolled in courses that count toward the 87 credits required for graduation. Any credits taken above the 87 credits required for graduation may not be eligible for federal financial aid. Please plan accordingly.
6. A Consortium Agreement must be completed between the home school and visiting school.  Your Cost of Attendance budget will be based on the living expenses and tuition charges of the program, not the standard Chicago-Kent Cost of Attendance budget. 
7.  A financial aid award will be formulated for you. You will be notified via email once you can view your financial aid award on the Financial Aid Dashboard of Access Illinois Tech.
8. The visiting school will have to collect the tuition and fees directly from the student. 
9. Students are not eligible to receive institutional scholarship money when they visit another school. 

The Office of Financial Aid does not determine the Cost of Attendance for host schools. For this reason, it is very crucial for each student to thoroughly research the host school's charges and costs of living prior to their departure. It is the students responsibility to budget themselves until their financial aid is processed.
