Institute on the Supreme Court of the United States

Chicago-Kent College of Law is home to a community of scholars who study the United States Supreme Court and its jurisprudence, with expertise ranging from intellectual property law to constitutional law to empirical scholarship. Some Chicago-Kent faculty also argue and brief cases on behalf of both parties and amici. The Institute on the Supreme Court of the United States (ISCOTUS) builds on this foundation and offers new opportunities, such as law review symposia, public lectures, and continuing legal education. ISCOTUS has also hosted visits to Chicago-Kent by U.S. Supreme Court Justices Stephen Breyer, Elena Kagan, Antonin Scalia, and John Paul Stevens.

In addition to events open to the law school community, ISCOTUS has a commitment to broader civic education. In 2020, Chicago-Kent launched the Constitutional Democracy Project, a civics education project led by ISCOTUS co-director Carolyn Shapiro. Additionally, every year the institute hosts a Constitution Day lecture or panel.
